Herefordshire Virtual School Games Gold!
The Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children at Bosbury School had a great time this week participating in the Herefordshire Virtual School Games Festival of Sport, where, rather than the usual county school competition which takes place at Hereford Leisure Centre each summer, the coronavirus outbreak meant that the contest was held online instead. Each school posted their results each day from a variety of different minute-long activities based on different sports including tennis, rugby, cricket and basketball.
Athletics also of course featured, and on Tuesday evening when the daily results were announced, we were thrilled to receive a notification on Twitter from event organizers Stride Active that Bosbury School had finished in first place overall in the shuttle run competition!
We finished first in today’s Herefordshire Virtual School Games athletics challenge!! 894 total shuttle laps completed by the 35 children in school and two at home for an average of 24 laps per child in one minute! Amazing running Bosbury and a fantastic result! 🤩👍🏻🎉🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻🥇 https://t.co/zRfPhB4oEo— Bosbury Primary (@BosburyPrimary) June 30, 2020
Well done to all 37 of the sporty children who took part in school (our keen Reception children were particularly competitive, more than giving the Year 6 veterans a run for their money in many of the activities!), and also to William Kennedy and Luke Hall who took on the challenges at home and sent their results in to further boost Bosbury's point totals.
Thank you also to these well-organized Year 6 ladies who helped to set up several of the activities... even if they tried to bend a few rules by turning a few 6s upside down to look like 9s on the scoring targets!
Full Bosbury results for each activity shown in statisticians' corner below!
Tennis - 2,312 tennis ball bounces on a racket for an average of 62 bounces per child in one minute
Athletics - 894 five metre shuttle laps for an average of 24 laps per child in one minute (gold medal in the competition and nearly 4.5km run in total!
Rugby - 463 successful target throws for an average of 13 points per child in one minute
Cricket - 1,250 total target points scored for an average score of 34 points per child in one minute
Basketball - 486 figure of 8 passes made in total for an average of 13 per child in thirty seconds
Thank you very much as well @stride_active for such a fun week of activities which all of our children in school from Reception up to Year 6 have really enjoyed participating in during the lockdown period. 😄👍🏻🎾🏃🏻♂️🏉🏃🏻♀️🏏🏃🏻🏀🥇 https://t.co/jrCotWFrB9— Bosbury Primary (@BosburyPrimary) July 3, 2020
