Reading Award

The Reading Award is a Bosbury School weekly award which rewards those children who do lots of reading at home either on their own or with parents, grandparents, siblings, aunties, uncles, cousins, friends, babysitters... just about anyone!

Teachers check each child's yellow reading record weekly and if they have read FIVE times or more with each entry being signed by a parent, guardian or family member, they are given a special reading raffle ticket.

This ticket then goes into the pot and if it is picked out by Miss Spence in the draw held during Friday morning's assembly, the child will receive a special Reading Award prize! Class 5 children also need to produce a detailed book review on what they have read in order for a ticket to be added to the pot!

Congratulations to the four avid readers shown below who are the latest Reading Award raffle winners for doing lots of reading at home this week! Well done and we hope you enjoy reading your new My First Easy Words Sticker Activity Book, The Spiderwick Chronicles and Fantastic Mr. Fox books!

Well done also to the two Key Stage 1 children shown below who received Headteacher's Award stickers from Miss Spence before half term for being extremely keen readers both in school and at home.

Remember to keep doing lots of reading at home to be in with a chance of being one of the next Reading Award raffle winners! Class 1 now even have their very own special reading bear called Bertie who will be taken home by a different child each week to have stories read to him! Lucky Bertie Bear!

The staff at Bosbury have been so impressed recently with the huge number of children reading to their parents at least five times a week. Keep it up and thank you - it really does make all the difference to your child’s love of reading and progress at school. Remember that the more your child reads and the more stories you read to them, the more detailed and imaginative their writing will also become! It's a win-win all round!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Downes (Max's mum!) who recently donated a very generous number of books to our school which we are sure will find a very happy new home in the school library ready for future generations of Bosbury School children to come to take home and enjoy.

Are you as avid a reader as these three lovely young ladies who decided to make their own reading bus in the classroom?
