Friends of Bosbury School (FOBS)

Parents and members of our local community have a key role in our school. They are responsible for raising significant funds, organising events and giving our pupils the opportunites to experience a wide range of additional activities.

Friends of Bosbury School (FOBS) is the team of volunteer parents who schedule, organise and publicise a timetable of fundraising activities and events for our families. Our Summer Fair is the most fun - and challenging - event the team organises each summer, with other regular events including school children's discos, parents' quiz nights, children's film nights, a spring plant sale, family Bingo evenings, and of course our magical festive Christmas Fair held in the beautiful setting of Bosbury Parish Church.

The school's 100 Club is also run by FOBS. Every September, family members and friends are able to buy tickets that are entered into the monthly FOBS prize draw - an initiative that raises over £700 each year for our school with a £25 top prize, £15 second prize and £10 third prize.

The money raised by FOBS is used to support all of the children who attend Bosbury School through funding the cost of:

Book bags

Christmas pantomime trips

♥ Christmas Lunch crackers

♥ Summer barbecue

♥ Playground play equipment

♥ Forest School resources and equipment

♥ Sports team kits

♥ Musical instruments

A brand new school pond!

Please let any of the team know if you have the time or expertise to help them.

FOBS Tesco Community Grant Bosbury Pond Project Appeal!

The Big Bosbury School Pond Project appeal is now LIVE at Tesco Ledbury!

Each time you shop in store, you will receive blue tokens at the checkout which can be placed in any of the three containers at the front of the store in support of three different local community projects.

Up until the end of June, one of these containers (*wink wink* the middle one *wink wink*!) is for FOBS' Bosbury Pond Project, which aims to provide a safe and exciting space for Bosbury children as well as the local community to use and enjoy local nature and wildlife.

Make sure you follow the fine examples being shown by the four Bosbury children and the Tesco member of staff shown above and place your blue tokens in the MIDDLE receptacle! If we have the most tokens by the closing date, we will receive a sizeable grant from the Tesco Community Grant scheme which will go a long way in helping to boost our special school pond project!

Happy shopping Bosbury, and, in the words of Mr. Tesco himself, "Every Little Helps!".

BOSBURY PUPILS HAVE EGGSCELLENT FUN IN FOBS EASTER EGG HUNT!

An eggstremely (sorry) big thank you to our very own FOBS Easter bunnies Liz Goodwin and Jenny Parker for organizing our annual Easter egg hunt around the school grounds for some very eggcited (sorry - we'll stop now) Bosbury School children!

Thank you also to lovely Bosbury mum Danielle Hurst for arranging a huge discount for the many chocolatey ovular treats which were handed out by the bunnies - it was a massive help towards costs for holding the event.

Happy Easter everyone from FOBS! Enjoy an eggs... I mean extremely well-earned break after such a challenging term, and don't forget that we are always looking for more members and helpers if any further parents or family members can give some of their free time to support us with the many projects we have coming up next term and beyond!

ASTOUNDING RESPONSE TO UKRAINE APPEAL!

FOBS were utterly amazed by the incredible response to our appeal and collection to help the millions of people affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Boxes upon boxes of essential items such as baby products, sanitary items and toiletries, tinned food, pet food, first aid supplies and hats, gloves and socks were donated by many kind members of both our lovely school family and the local community, all of which are now on there way in several vans to be taken to hospitals and Warsaw and the distribution point on the Polish border.

Thank you to FOBS co-chairpersons Hayley Boswell and Elizabeth Goodwin for organizing the collection, to Andy and Sam Hibberd, Jill Walters and Vicky Kaye for helping to box all the items up, to Mrs. Wilesmith for co-ordinating the delivery of the items, and to her step-dad, uncle and three friends who are making the long journey across Europe to deliver the items for us.

Well done and THANK YOU Bosbury - what an extraordinary display of generosity in order to help the victims of a terrible series of events which have touched us all. Our couriers will be sending pictures of their journey to school so we can follow their progress!

KRISPY KREME FUNDRAISER AN OVERWHELMINGLY TASTY SUCCESS!

A HUGE thank you to FOBS Co-chairperson Elizabeth Goodwin, who made the trip to Evesham on Friday along with one of our Jack-in-the-Box mums to collect boxes upon boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to deliver to hungry parents and pupils as part of FOBS' very special and exceedingly tasty Valentine's fundraiser for our school this year!

The boxes flew out of the school gates at the end of the day on Friday, as hundreds of torus treats went to the homes of Bosbury families who couldn't wait to tuck into their early half term treats! Reports that Mr. Ponter consumed three of them in-between Miss Christie bringing the boxes into school at 2:50pm and him going on the crossing that afternoon remain unconfirmed.

Thank you again to Liz for organizing this new and very successful fundraiser, to the Krispy Kreme staff for preparing all of these hundreds of sugary treats, and to all Bosbury families who willingly handed over their £10 both digitally and in note-form for their doughy smiles of goodness. Your support remains invaluable during a time when opportunities to raise funds for our lovely school continue to be extremely limited due to the effects of Covid.

Keep an eye out for further FOBS events coming up over the next two terms, as restrictions finally begin to relax for what we hope will be a prolonged if not permanent period.

Until then, happy doughnut-munching over half term everyone! Mmmm, yummy!

FOBS TESCO DONATION

A HUGE thank you to Danielle Hurst (Rebecca and Emily's mum!) and the staff at Tesco Ledbury for securing some lovely festive donations which will be used at the upcoming FOBS Christmas events.

Thank you Danielle and Tesco, we REALLY appreciate this valuable support at a time when things continue to be challenging for businesses and communities, and we are sure that the children are going to love these tasty treats!

SECOND HAND UNIFORM SALE A GREAT SUCCESS!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Collyer and Mrs. Parker for organizing and running our latest brilliant FOBS second hand uniform sale at the front of school at the end of the day on Friday. Our next uniform sale will take place after school on Monday 6th December, to include a Christmas jumper sale as well - ideal for those pupils still on the hunt for some festive wear for the Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 10th December!

THE FOBS 100 CLUB IS BACK!

YES! By popular demand, Bosbury School's ever popular lottery run by FOBS is BACK!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic still likely to have an effect on the scale of the events we can safely hold for the forthcoming year, the 100 Club remains our most important fundraising initiative. At a cost of just £1 a month (or, even easier, purchase an annual twelve-month ticket for just £11!), you can be entered into a monthly draw to win one of three cash prizes if your name is drawn from the hat. For the first time ever, we have a new monthly top prize of £25, along with a second prize of £15 and a third prize of £10. Very handy for Christmas!

Simply complete a FOBS 100 Club entry form (copies have been recently sent out in children's book bags, alternatively you can collect them from the school office or download them HERE), and hand it directly to our new FOBS 100 Club Co-ordinator Mrs. Rachel Blandford with the cash amount or cheque made payable to Friends of Bosbury School.

You can also drop your completed form with the cash or cheque off in an envelope with Mr. Walker in the school office marked '100 Club Money' or 'FAO Rachel Blandford', or you can take a photo of the completed form and send it electronically to rachel01531@hotmail.com, or via text message to 07709 362484. Online payment details can be found at the bottom of the entry form.

Feel free to add grandparents, other family members, friends and neighbours to the form as well - the more the merrier! If we can get 100 people playing the 100 Club, £600 will be made for our school!

A huge, HUGE thank you to brilliant Bosbury mum Mrs. Pavlina Fielder, who has decided to step down as FOBS 100 Club Co-ordinator after doing such a superb job running it over the last two and a half years. Much of this took place over the incredibly challenging COVID lockdown periods, when the 100 Club was perhaps the ONLY source of income for FOBS. Thank you Pavlina!

FOBS AGM 2021/22

Thank you to everyone who logged in and joined us for the 2021/22 FOBS AGM which took place on Zoom on Wednesday 20th October. Congratulations to Mrs. Hayley Boswell, who now takes up the position of Co-Chairperson alongside Mrs. Elizabeth Goodwin, and thank you to outgoing Co-Chairpersons Mrs. Jo Lloyd and Mrs. Laura Symonds, who have helped steer the PTA so brilliantly through an incredibly challenging last eighteen months, when Coronavirus pandemic has made opportunities for fundraising incredibly limited.

Thank you also to Mrs. Matilda Attwood who is standing down as Secretary, and a huge thank you to Mrs. Rachael Portman who has kindly offered to take up this role. Mrs. Symonds will continue to administer FOBS on social media.

We are always keen to welcome new members and new ideas, particularly as the ongoing pandemic will continue to make large-scale fundraising events challenging for at least the near future. Thank you to Mr. Gilchrist who will be looking in to sourcing new books for the school library.

HALLOWEEN BUCKET 150 SQUARE WINNER!

Congratulations to this lucky young lady from Class 5, who found out during her choir practice after school on the last day before half term that she had won a ghoulishly good Halloween hamper after her number was pulled out of the hat to win the latest FOBS 150 square competition! We hope you enjoy your terrifyingly tasty treats over the half-term break!

Thank you to everyone who purchased a square (all 150 were sold in the end!), and a monster-sized thank you in particular to kind Bosbury mum and FOBS Treasurer Mrs. Kelly Cummings for donating this spectacular spooky prize! Happy Halloween!

NEW FOBS CLOTHING BANK

Our brand new FOBS clothing bank is now in operation at the front of the school by the mural at the front of the boiler house. We encourage all Bosbury families to feed it generously as this will help raise funds for our school, as well as providing a huge help to disadvantaged families in the local community.

We welcome all clothing and paired shoes in good condition, as well as bags, belts and soft toys. Please refrain from putting pillows and duvets, bric-a-brac items, plastic toys and any general waste into the bank.

Many thanks for your generosity and kind support of this new FOBS initiative, and a huge thank you to FOBS chairperson Mrs. Elizabeth Goodwin for securing this exciting new asset to our school community.

FIRST FOBS CAKE SALE IN EIGHTEEN MONTHS A TASTY SUCCESS!

Thank you to all of the talented Bosbury bakers who made and donated a whole range of colourful and scrumptious treats for the first FOBS Cake Sale of the new 2021/22 school year!

An EXCEEDINGLY tasty £270 was raised, which was an absolutely fantastic result for our first such sale held in at least eighteen months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you also to the four lovely ladies pictured above who helped run the stall with a smile!

Look out for news on when the next scrummy sale will take place!
